Bastian Hartig is a New York-based video journalist and international correspondent with more than 15 years of experience reporting across the United States, Asia and Europe. His work spans politics, international affairs, breaking news, business and technology, and long-form documentary storytelling.
From 2015 to 2019, he was Deutsche Welle’s Asia Correspondent based in Bangkok, reporting from across the region on major political developments, humanitarian crises and breaking news. His assignments included the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, the Philippine drug war, the aftermath of the Palu earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, and the U.S.–North Korea summits.
Since moving to New York, he has reported extensively on U.S. politics and society for German and international news organizations, including Deutsche Welle and ZDF. He develops stories from pitch through final delivery and frequently works as a one-person video journalist—researching, reporting, shooting, scripting and editing his own work—while also producing and leading field teams.
His work includes short-form news, reported features, live coverage, digital and vertical video, and long-form documentary projects. He works in English and German and also speaks Spanish.
